Over the past 10-15 years, a new and dynamic understanding has emerged about type II diabetes from the available research. Our former understanding was that diabetes was a blood sugar problem, and that medications should be prescribed to bring down the blood sugar. But the new research data has conclusively established that diabetes is an insulin resistance problem.
In simple terms, insulin resistance is the body’s mismanagement of its energy resources, due to a faulty lifestyle. This mismanagement has to do with the delicate balance between energy input (eating), and energy output (exercise). Insulin resistance happens when we take in too many calories, especially animal fat and refined carbohydrate calories, and have very little physical activity.
The one definitive thing that the data shows is that type II diabetes is not caused by an absence of pharmaceuticals! It’s caused by the way that we live, that is, our lifestyles. The Reversing Diabesity Program seeks to educate the participant concerning the way that the body manages energy, and how to cooperate with the laws that govern our physiology.
In its simplest form, the Reversing Diabesity program has three basic interventions involving the type and quality of the foods we eat, our level of physical activity, and adequate hydration, which reduces the risk of fatal coronary events.
In a larger sense, obesity and diabetes are part of a lifestyle-related cluster of diseases and risk factors known as Metabolic Syndrome. It just so happens that all of the individual components of this syndrome are caused by lifestyle factors. Reversing Diabesity seeks to correct the lifestyle factors that cause Metabolic Syndrome. This lifestyle approach to managing Metabolic Syndrome has actually been endorsed by the American Heart Association and the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute in their position statement on Metabolic Syndrome:
“For management of long-term as well as short-term risk, lifestyle therapies are first-line interventions to reduce the metabolic risk factors. The major lifestyle interventions include weight loss in overweight or obese subjects, increased physical activity, and modification of an atherogenic diet (Table 2). These changes will produce a reduction in all of the metabolic risk factors simultaneously. In the long run, the greatest benefit for those with the metabolic syndrome will be derived from effective lifestyle intervention.” Diagnosis and Management of the Metabolic Syndrome-An American Heart Association/National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Scientific Statement Executive Summary DOI: 10.1161/CIRCULATIONAHA.105.169405
If you are ready for real change that is safe and effective in overcoming obesity and type II diabetes, then just click the link below, and register for the 6-week Reversing Diabesity Lifestyle Intervention Program. Each week, you will watch one new video, and implement or refine one of three lifestyle habits. These habits have a profound influence on insulin resistance, the root cause of obesity and diabetes. (In fact, the effects of physical activity on insulin resistance are so profound that if you are diabetic and on medications, YOU MUST CONSULT WITH YOUR DOCTOR before beginning an exercise program. The reason? A brisk 30 minute walk can cause your blood sugar to drop several points, and in combination with medications can cause you blood sugar to drop too low! Your doctor will probably lower your meds, once you begin to exercise 30 minutes twice a day.)
